The Truman Show

Posted: October 14, 2014 in Uncategorized

Hello Parents

As you know, we’ve finished reading the novel The Giver by Lois Lowry. We always like to give students the opportunity to see a visual representation, or as close of a visual as we can. That is why we are going to show The Truman Show starring Jim Carey. It depicts a Utopian society similar to the one portrayed in The Giver. Students will compare novel to the movie, identifying Utopian characteristics of both the community and protagonist.

If you don’t want your child to watch this show, please let me know and I will give them an alternate assignment down in the media center.

ThanksThe Truman Show

Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend!

When we come back we will be looking at Utopias and Dystopias preparing to start reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. Do Not watch the movie if you haven’t seen it yet! It is not a good representation of the novel. Please make sure you have a composition notebook because we will be taking lots of notes over this novel.Utopia Sign

Summer is over already!?

Well that means only one thing:

Welcome to Mr. Rich’s 7th grade Language Arts class. I am really excited for this school year to get started, and I look forward to working with both students and parents to make this year a success!

I will be using this site to keep parents and students in the loop on what is happening in my classroom. I will post assignments and any important announcements on a weekly basis. If a student is absent, they can log onto this site and get their homework so they don’t fall behind.

Parents or students if you have any questions feel free to email me at crich@nsd131.org.

Again I am excited for this year to begin!
